ICC Academy applauds first PCP graduates

Singapore, 4 January 2018: A ground-breaking initiative to retrain mid-career professionals, launched in 2016, has seen its first set of graduates walk across the stage during a Commencement Ceremony, which took place on Wednesday 15 November 2017 .

The one-year International Trading Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) was developed by the International Trading Institute of Singapore Management University (ITI@SMU) in partnership with the ICC Academy, IE Singapore and Workforce Singapore (WSG).

Josephine Teo, Minister in the Prime Minister of Singapore’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Manpower, and Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, addressed the graduates, highlighting the importance of international trade and the array of jobs it offers. The 20 PCP graduates each received their specialist diploma in international trading, having completed the ICC Academy’s Global Trade Certificate (GTC) programme—a key aspect of the curriculum.

ICC Academy General Manager Daniel Kok said: “This initiative was established as a response to the labour market, which has seen rapid changes by technological advances in recent years. We are proud to have empowered these professionals by giving them the knowledge they need to start anew and excel, in addition to strengthening the trading sector as a whole.”

The graduates have been matched to 16 companies across the food and beverage, commodities, electronic consumables and fast-moving consumer goods sectors.  They will each take on diverse roles relating to business development, finance, logistics, supply chain management and trade operations.

Christopher Chow, Deputy Director, International Trading Institute at SMU said “a future-ready programme requires a future-ready curriculum. We’re glad to have partnered with ICC Academy to offer e-learning topics on Trade Finance and Cross-Border Trade on a robust online learning system which can be assessed anywhere and anytime.”

The PCP, which already has another 54 participants enrolled, is a part-time programme that aims to effectively prepare participants for a variety of middle office roles by offering first-hand experience in the world of international trade, as well as an overview of the wholesale trading value chain. This is accomplished through a blend of classroom training and e-learning components—the ICC Academy’s international training model and digital training platform—and is enhanced by expert-led seminars, company site visits and project work.
