ICC Academy announces launch of its Free Trade Agreement Certification

Singapore, 9 April: Slated for 22nd May, 2019, the ICC Academy is all set to roll out its latest certification programme, the Free Trade Agreement Certificate (FTAC). The e-course aims to help businesses of all size navigate the often-difficult and legalistic Free Trade Agreement (FTA) rules to enter key overseas markets.

In keeping pace with the ever-evolving international trade landscape, FTAs have become the framework of prosperity for countries. These agreements open up trade opportunities for businesses to benefit from the reduction and elimination of tariff and quotas. They also address behind-the-border barriers that impede the flow of goods and services between parties.

Commenting on the upcoming certificate launch, ICC Academy General Manager Daniel Kok said, “This interactive course has been developed keeping in mind the bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements in place across countries. Over the past several years, it has become apparent that many companies have not fully utilized the benefits of FTAs to address current business.”

“The latest FTA certification aims to equip businesses, especially small and medium sized enterprise, with the knowledge and expertise required to understand the nitty-gritty of FTAs. It provides a collaborative mapping of how business units can come together to overcome perceived technicalities and generate revenue-boosting solutions. Takers of this programme can gain in-depth knowledge to overcome challenges that hinders growth and adoption of new trade agreements.” added Mr Kok.

Comprising four lessons, the two-hour interactive e-course:

  • examines the strategic planning behind Free Trade Agreements
  • provides an overview of the FTA basics
  • explains the importance of FTAs for business operations
  • and offers industry case studies

Designed for business of all sizes, this certification will benefit business development executives and sales, procurement, supply chain and manufacturing, trade compliance, legal, audit/taxation, logistics service providers, forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, insurers, as well as trade consultants.

Speaking highly of the certification programme, Satvinder Singh, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Enterprise Singapore said, “As a global trading hub, Singapore’s extensive network of 24 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) help our companies access overseas market opportunities with FTA partner countries. It is increasingly important for companies to be adept at using FTAs to boost export competitiveness and identify new growth opportunities.”

“The latest FTA Certificate Programme by the ICC Academy supports professionals handling cross-border trade with the foundation of FTA regulations to enhance their understanding and its applications” added Mr Singh.

Bolstered by new innovations, the certification includes 2D animated videos with voice-over and transcripts, quiz review dashboard for assessment tracking, achievement badges for progression tracking, integrated/searchable course glossary of terms and new pre-assessment games.

The e-course has been designed by Maler Vilee, Principal Trainer, Globalab. Maler has more than 15 years of experience in working with governments in trade, investment and free trade agreements.
