Case Study: ADB trains 80 banks, boosts trade with ICC Academy

About the company

Based in Manila, ADB is an international development finance institution, owned by 67 members. By targeting its investments wisely in partnership with its stakeholders, ADB helps its developing members reduce poverty, ensuring that growth is sustainable and inclusive through loans, technical assistance, grants and advice.

Challenges

Through its Trade Finance Programme (TFP), ADB works with partner banks to provide companies with the financial support needed to trade in Asia’s most challenging markets. The programme supports a wide range of transactions—from commodities and capital goods to medical supplies and consumer goods.

To effectively strengthen employee competencies and build expertise, ADB required an international and high-impact training resource that would allow the staff to easily adapt to the changing requirements of stakeholders; gain a competitive edge and better advise the trade community. It was also essential that materials were accessible anywhere, at any time.

How we helped

ADB was able to offer specialised training and certification to 150 staff members in 80 banks thanks to the ICC Academy’s industry-backed curriculum and convenient online platform. With employees’ expertise boosted, TFP partner banks were able to provide high-quality support to local export and import companies, resulting in increased trade activities throughout the region.

Future plans

With expertise boosted among select TFP employees, ADB is set to expand its capacity-building initiative with the ICC Academy in 2018. This step reinforces ADB’s commitment to advance partner bank knowledge, allowing companies to reach their potential through international trade.
